With 2017 in it’s final hours, I could reflect.
I’m not going to because it hasn’t been one of my favorites tbh. Onward and upward as they say, when the going gets tough the tough get going.
Speaking of aphorisms, that’s what I’ll start with, two of my favourites, to greet the new year.
‘A life lived in fear is a life half lived’ – first heard in the film ‘Strictly Ballroom’, which I love by the way, together with; ‘life is what you make it’.
That’s as good as a resolution in my book and covers pretty much everything.
Resolutions aren’t really my thing, far too easy to break and then fail at and who in their right mind wants to set themselves up for failure?
Intentions though I can go with.
So I’ll strive for:
Contentment rather than happiness (happiness is good but fleeting, enjoy it while you can but don’t try to hold on too tight I say)
Being happy with what I have, rather that having things to make me happy.
Resourcefulness and sustainability over commercialism and wastefulness.
Not much new there but I don’t feel the need to reinvent the wheel.
I spent a lovely day today, just relaxing. Breakfast in bed, papers and coffee, then a wander round town and a browse in the bookshops with tea and scones.
Philip’s standing outside of the Cambridge Gin Laboratory, sadly I’m not a gin lover but the still in the window is a sight to behold.
I’m looking up at the Christmas lights by the way!
Wishing you all a very Happy New Year for 2018.
Time to kick it off with a cocktail:
Hope you have a good night.

I’m not one for resolutions either, if something needs changing I just do it, sod the date on the calendar! I like your intentions. If we all thought like you the world would be a much better place! xxx

I pretty much agree with you on the resolutions. I am who I am at this point and know when I need to step up to the plate or when to back off. I love your cocktail 🍹 pic . Like Phillip, I am a gin enthusiast. I like that herbal aroma it has-though it’s probably not any better for one than any other spirit. Here’s to a content and Happy 2018 for all of us.
