One wet week in July

It started raining

and didn’t really stop.

A weekend barbeque…

The host valiantly struggling on, under an umbrella.

Until, finally, he gave up; we ate inside.

just when we had finished, we were treated to fifteen minutes of sunshine.

Those fifteen minutes between showers are very welcome..

but, where is the rest of the summer?

So it’s been a week of warm(ish) clothes and being (mainly) inside.

On the bright side, I’ve been able to get on with some jewellery making

I bought a third hand. I don’t know how I managed without it.

It makes soldering so much easier.

I’ve found to my cost that if you don’t solder the little connecting (jump) rings, the whole piece of jewellery can easily fall apart if it has too many, or too heavy, components.

I made some earrings using glass beads and sterling silver findings

Then decided to try copper. I didn’t have any so ordered online and it arrived next day.

I’ve been using more of the sea glass.

I’ve also been using fragments of Mexican pottery (photo to right). Ground, smoothed and then sealed before being made into jewellery.

This is the first year in ages that we haven’t escaped to somewhere hot in the summer. I guess I’m just going to have to keep myself busy until I can get out to play!

Ps.. it was a great barbeque despite the weather. Maybe even because of it.

The weather might be rubbish but hey, it’s still summer…light nights, not tooooo cold and hope of some warm weather to come.

Have a lovely week.

  1. I get the rain-we had 7″ in 3.5 hours in the middle of the night. We were up most of the night, lost the battle-basement flooded but it’s almost cleaned up now and maybe, just maybe we will get rid of some junk (finger’s crossed). Anyway, the third hand looks great-and I know it would help in general to learn how to solder, I need to get busy on my 2Loved post for Friday-take care, Terri

The weather has been misbehaving here in Belgium too, although I don’t think we had as much rain as you. But summer it certainly isn’t! Good to see that you compensated being outside with your jewellery making. You’ve got some pretty pieces there. I love the sea glass pendants and using pottery fragments is a great idea. xxx

    1. I’m getting into the jewellery making at the moment, I used to do a lot of it and I had forgotten how much I enjoy it.

The rain is incessant! We’re driving up north for a gig in a bit, I’d hung a halterneck maxi dress out p to wear but Jon’s just informed me that it’s an outdoor event. Looks like wellies and a rain cape…again!
I’m glad you had a brilliant time at the BBQ despite the weather. Booze and great company make up for everything.
Your jewellery is stunning especially the Mexican piece. xxx

    1. I love outdoor events but this summer the weather’s just so unreliable 😕. I’m just about to read your blog about it, I hope it went well.
We’re off for another meetup with friends in a minute and I’m definitely going weather prepared! xxx
